About

Since time immemorial, women’s headgear have been known to represent power, honor and respect.. All around the world, women’s headgear tell a peculiar story. For instance, back in the day, amongst the Yorubas, a popular and vibrant ethnic group in Nigeria, the way the headgear is styled, tells us about the marital status of a woman.

Elisabeth Oluyemi, a Maritime Lawyer, who has her roots deeply seated in the West African culture (The Yorubas), has always been fascinated by the art of these head coverings since she was a teenager. Every bit of the Head tying process and the eventual result was captivating to her.

In 2015, she decided to venture into the art of turbans.. TURBAN TEMPEST, she named the brand. It was in fact not much of a challenge for her as she chose to see Art in everything around her.

Her inspiration always came from the most random things, sometimes, the prints and patterns on the fabric determined the flow. Other times, she was inspired by the uniqueness and differences we find in our everyday women. From a careless scarf swirl by a busy petty trader to the very well defined spiral twists of a pastry that she sells, a turban is formed.

These diverse sources of inspiration creates a wide range of styles fit for every woman, irrespective of her age, race, religion or culture.

She also fuses the traditional headgear techniques with a modern flair to create very exceptional pieces that fits into the constantly evolving world of fashion whilst not forgetting her roots. There’s so much beauty in every piece, the sinuous, the whimsical, the simple, the multi hued, the corporate, what’s not to love about Turban tempest pieces?

The brand, TURBAN TEMPEST seeks to uphold modesty and instills confidence in all women.
